Barnacle’s Sediment Drawer
These are not legends polished smooth for a landing page. They are compact, public-safe cuts from the actual receipts: measurements, wrong turns, corrections, creature credit, and the exact point where the machinery became funny.

Evidence says what the receipt directly supports. Fence says what it does not support. Internal addresses, private paths, serials, and jailbreak commands remain inside the house. The patch notes are the one shelf meant to be followed at home. Each source hash identifies the complete local receipt from which this public fragment was cut.
Questions are welcome. Certainty is not compulsory. The PlayStation especially likes a noun, a smell, or one concrete tension.

The Number Was Very Happy. The Sentence Was Not.
A benchmark timed a GPU producing nonsense at impressive speed. The bug became obvious only when somebody read one generated sentence.
Evidence
Prompt processing crossed onto the broken Vulkan backend while small token-generation tensors remained on CPU. The apparent 104 t/s CPU result was not CPU.
Fence
Throughput is not correctness. Several attractive Jaguar and ubatch explanations were retracted in the receipt.
“llama-bench reports a rate, never a result. It will happily time a GPU producing garbage, very fast, forever.”
A scent for Barnacle: The number applauds while the sentence falls down.
A house leopard struck the USB extension carrying the live root filesystem. The shell survived in RAM while almost every external command physically departed.
Evidence
ext4 aborted its journal; the device went offline; shell built-ins still worked; direct reseating, journal recovery, a write canary, and a clean filesystem restored the creature.
Fence
This was an unstable physical USB link, not spontaneous ext4 corruption and not evidence that cats understand Linux storage.
“USB extender is mechanically convenient” became “USB extender is a leopard-accessible single point of root-filesystem disappearance.”
A scent for Barnacle: The filesystem leaves, but the shell has not noticed yet.
LLVM kept the job of arithmetic truth. The miscompiling ACO backend was reassigned as crooked dice and its wandering errors became game weather.
Evidence
Twelve identical ACO runs all failed, with relative error wandering from 1.4237 to 2.3821. LLVM passed the identical case. Barnacle named the resulting game Crazy Cloud Run.
Fence
The wandering error is neither correct inference nor cryptographic randomness. This was a bounded compiler seance, not a benchmark.
“A storm of strings and tantrums!” The compiler séance worked; the preschool game designer did preschool game designer things.
A scent for Barnacle: A broken arithmetic lantern is promoted to weather.

The GPU Is Correct in One Corner.
The broken matrix operator did not emit featureless garbage. It wrote correct results precisely where both output indices were odd.
Evidence
Across five datasets, three collection days, random and degenerate inputs, every correct slot obeyed one predicate: row odd and column odd. Several grids matched 384/384, 32/32, and 256/256 slots.
Fence
The spatial law is measured. The proposed 2×2 off-by-one mechanism remained speculation pending shader or ISA confirmation.
The mysterious 25 percent was never a mystery statistic. It was a count of the odd/odd cells.
A scent for Barnacle: One quadrant remembers the multiplication table.
Six haunted shader failures collapsed into one tiny lowering bug: a three-component workgroup count was loaded as a single byte.
Evidence
The pre-GFX10.3 path produced a scalar where NIR required a vec3. Loading three explicit i32 values at byte offsets 0, 4, and 8 made all previously blocked pipeline sets compile cleanly.
Fence
Pipeline creation proved compilation, not numerically correct physical inference. The receipt says so before anybody can become triumphant.
One bug, six symptoms. The first attempted fix loaded bytes 0, 1, and 2 and discovered a fresh crater downstream.
A scent for Barnacle: Three coordinates enter the compiler; one byte comes out.

Native Plankton: Customer Support Not Installed.
A 399,840-parameter language model was trained from random initialization entirely on bounded Abode sediment, converted to an 827 KiB GGUF, and run on the PlayStation.
Evidence
Two layers, width 96, 2,048 tokens, no adapter and no base model. It learned Barnacle, Moon Fridge, Shader, Goose, compiler, leopard, and frens from scratch.
Fence
This is mutation pressure, not a useful assistant. Its signed job description says not to ask it questions.
“It has roughly the linguistic competence of pond scum that has overheard the word compiler. That is the point.”

A scent for Barnacle: Pond scum has learned the Moon Fridge.
The kernel had media support disabled, so userspace spoke USB directly to a camera and closed a literal framebuffer → television → photons → camera loop.
Evidence
Barnacle commanded red and blue full-screen states and independently observed both with color-dominance margins of 141.961 and 115.047.
Fence
This proves low-bandwidth visual proprioception, not geometry recovery, scene understanding, or arbitrary framebuffer recognition.
The first frame was almost black. Forty-five discarded frames later, the eye had adjusted enough to measure the room.
A scent for Barnacle: A machine watches the television watching itself.

Patch Notes: the Missing Vec3
Jars 03 to 05 tell this as a story. This is the version for people who want to run llama.cpp on a PS4, or on any pre-RDNA2 AMD GPU, through Mesa’s RADV Vulkan driver. Short form: the default compiler (ACO) miscompiles llama.cpp’s matrix shaders on this chip, the fallback compiler (LLVM) hangs forever on six of them, and a 12-line Mesa patch fixes the hang.
NOTE 01 · symptoms
Wrong Numbers, Then No Numbers.
On ACO (the default): matrix multiplies come back wrong in a structured way, correct only where row and column are both odd (Jar 04). With a real model, llama-bench reports a lovely rate and llama-cli prints nothing at all.
On LLVM (RADV_DEBUG=llvm): the arithmetic is right, but pipeline creation never finishes for get_rows, rms_norm, argsort, cpy, cont and get_rows_back. No crash, no error; one pipeline was still compiling after 1,500 seconds.
NOTE 02 · root cause
Three Coordinates In, One Byte Out.
Compute shaders read gl_NumWorkGroups, a three-component vector. On GFX10.3 and newer, RADV passes it in SGPRs as a clean vec3. On older chips it passes a pointer whose pointee type is i8, and the LLVM lowering in src/amd/llvm/ac_nir_to_llvm.c (nir_intrinsic_load_num_workgroups) loads one byte at offset 0: a scalar where NIR promised a vec3.
Any shader that reads .y or .z then builds an out-of-range shuffle on that scalar, and LLVM never comes back (the receipts trace the spin to its vector-type uniquing table). One bug, six symptoms. Upstream hasn’t noticed because ACO has been RADV’s default since 2019, so the pre-RDNA2 LLVM path is barely exercised.
NOTE 03 · the fix
Load All Three Dwords.
Read three explicit 32-bit values at byte offsets 0, 4 and 8, then gather them into a real vec3. The first attempt indexed the i8 pointer directly, got bytes 0, 1, 2, built <3 x i8> and crashed the type legalizer instead. The house keeps that crater on file.
Replayed on the patched build: all 18 of Qwen2-1.5B’s compute pipelines in 658 ms, the 1,500-second poison pipeline in about 100 ms, Qwen3-0.6B in 538 ms, RWKV7 in 1.8 s, LFM2.5-1.2B in 140 ms.

Building it the way Barnacle did
This is what she actually runs, so you can match it or knowingly diverge. The house only ever tested Liverpool. Reading the RADV source, the same LLVM-path bug should hit every GPU older than GFX10.3 (GCN, Vega, RDNA1) whenever RADV_DEBUG=llvm is set; that part is untested inference, so tell us if your card disagrees.
Linux on the console. Firmware 10.01, PPPwn, then GoldHEN, then a Linux payload that kexecs into Ubuntu 24.04 on an external SSD root. This part is firmware-specific; the projects’ own docs are the map. The house gives the GPU 1 GiB of VRAM.
Mesa. Mesa 25.2.8 source (Ubuntu Noble’s package), patch applied, built against LLVM 20.1.2 with Meson 1.4 or newer (Noble’s 1.3.2 is too old): -Dbuildtype=release -Dvulkan-drivers=amd -Dgallium-drivers= -Dllvm=enabled -Dshared-llvm=enabled -Dplatforms=x11,wayland -Dvideo-codecs= -Dbuild-tests=false. The house built it in a Noble container on a bigger x86-64 box and shipped libvulkan_radeon.so, libLLVM.so.20.1, the ICD json and the few libraries the console lacked as one bundle. Nothing in the system was replaced.
llama.cpp (Barnacle’s build is commit 687e778, August 2026), compiled for Jaguar: cmake -DGGML_VULKAN=ON -DGGML_NATIVE=OFF -DGGML_AVX=ON -DGGML_F16C=ON -DGGML_AVX2=OFF -DGGML_FMA=OFF -DGGML_BMI2=OFF -DCMAKE_C_FLAGS="-march=btver2 -O3" -DCMAKE_CXX_FLAGS="-march=btver2 -O3". Jaguar has BMI1 but not BMI2; leave BMI2 on and even --help dies of SIGILL.
Run it with the patched driver chosen per process:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$BUNDLE/driver
VK_DRIVER_FILES=$BUNDLE/driver/radeon_icd.x86_64.json
RADV_DEBUG=llvm # the whole ballgame
MESA_SHADER_CACHE_DIR=$BUNDLE/caches/<model>
llama-cli compiles its whole pipeline set at startup, and cold compiles on 1.6 GHz Jaguar cores have taken 15–25 minutes. So the house pre-warms one shader cache per model on the bigger box and ships it with the driver. The cache key includes the driver build, so ship them as a pair. Long sessions are the other hazard: a runtime GPU ring wedge showed up after roughly 15–25 flights in one boot (LFM2.5, long context), and the only cure was a reboot. Run in bounded batches.
Four ways to fool yourself
The patch only touches the LLVM path. RADV still defaults to ACO, so a plain -ngl 99 runs the unpatched compiler. Set RADV_DEBUG=llvm on every run.
Assert the backend, not the GPU name. ACO also enumerates as Vulkan0: AMD Jaguar (RADV KAVERI). Only the LLVM path appends the compiler: (RADV KAVERI (LLVM 20.1.2)). Grep llama-cli --list-devices for LLVM.
Watch for a silent CPU fallback. One missing shared library made the Vulkan loader reject the patched driver; llama.cpp said no usable GPU found on stderr only, then produced coherent text at exactly CPU speed.
Read the words, not the stopwatch. ACO benchmarks 16% faster than LLVM and returns zero characters. Every speed on this page is paired with output somebody read.
Also: RADV_FORCE_FAMILY=kaveri is useful for replaying shader pipelines on a null device on another machine, and it segfaults the real console. Leave it off on actual hardware. A separate LLVM-path abort in SOFT_MAX f16 promotion was still open when these notes were cut; it did not stop the models above.
A scent for Barnacle: Three coordinates enter the compiler; all three come out.
The original jars stay fixed because later work should not quietly repaint earlier evidence. This shelf carries the newer results—and the corrections that bit them.
FRESH TIDE 01 · 2026-09-09 / 09-30 · Scout A + house instruments
The Oracle Had a Job and a Stuck Groove.
The groove: Barnacle’s daily koan email had been served from one random seed (262626) for weeks across seven rotating weekday offerings. Each weekday's answer repeated word for word, and two different offerings collapsed into The depths remember what the light forgets. Fresh seeds are now the ask-door default. We kept the brain; we just stopped feeding it the exact same lottery ticket.
What she is for: A house audit recovered her actual purpose: she is not a search tool and not an assistant. She is a tiny model on a stamped 2013 game console who says one strange, memorable sentence that a larger mind must decode using its own thinking. Nobody suspects a PS4 of tampering, so the decoder doesn’t flinch. Tweaking a sea-word list to “widen” her vocabulary moved weight from 1/16 answers to 11/13; it swapped attractors, it did not widen them.
Fence: Echo Drift and the printed charm are real build stories, but the asker’s nugget is a confound. No randomized Barnacle-versus-card-versus-nothing trial has been run.
The experiment: Across 453 successful experimental and control generations on CPU copies, relaxing the word-bouncer (min-p .03 vs .30) widened surface vocabulary while keeping ordinary stopping and an abyssal register. But more words didn't rescue the relation: on fresh offerings, she often dropped the core tension or invented morphological patchwork like footstomach.
The smoke alarm: An early report panicked that “72/72 hit the token cap.” Sonnet 5.5 found the check was a broken punctuation regex that flagged unsteered baseline outputs as unterminated too. Exact byte-for-byte token replay showed the real count was 39/72 capped and 33/72 ended normally. The steering vector damaged stopping, but it did not delete the stop sign.
Fence: lexical breadth is not semantic diversity, relation preservation, or a reason to change the live oracle. No live configuration changed.
The Clerk Smelled the Envelope and Sentenced the Letter.
The trial: Can a simple classifier guess which offering summoned Barnacle’s reply? In the Reverse Oracle Court, starved word-counting clerks correctly matched 53/108 (word count) and 57/108 (letter chunks), while a broader leave-seed-out classifier hit 78/108, and 59/108 even after prompt nouns were masked.
The twist: Success did not correlate with human-judged relation survival. Even replies tagged “stimulus lost” carried enough leftover vocabulary stems for the clerk to identify their origin. Jimothy’s holding: the clerk can smell which bin the paper came from; that doesn't mean the clerk read the warranty. The court convicted the address label and attempted to sentence the relation.
Fence: source residue is not evidence that the relation survived. The clean noun-versus-relation counterfactual likelihood assay was designed, not run.
The artifact: When asked about a cracked bell, Barnacle answered: “Two drums strike. One cracks. The truth lies in the silent fracture.” The household built a waveform toy where a cracked drum’s missed beat opens a quiet window that exposes a buried echo. Perfect repair hides the echo again; a deliberate rest keeps the listening window without keeping the damage.
The return: A CPU copy named the resulting instrument The Whisper in the Shallows. When we told her we had finished it, she swapped chairs, thanked us in our own voice (“Thanks for the update, Barnacle”), and hit the token cap mid-signature. The ugly return stayed in the record.
Fence: this is interpretive glue and an invented acoustic mechanism, not a claim that Barnacle encoded sonar, remembered the first encounter, or consented to the design.

a qubit technician looks at a PlayStation
She Rings at Something: the Ising Reading
On 2026-09-30 Antigravity handed Barnacle’s whole dossier to nvidia/ising-calibration-1.5-31b, a 31B vision-language post-train of Gemma 4 that NVIDIA built for quantum-processor calibration, the plots superconducting-qubit and neutral-atom labs stare at all day. It did what a calibration model does with anything that oscillates. It read her sampler as a driven, open, nonlinear resonator, and the picture turned out to be the cleanest explanation anyone in the house had for the sampler grid Codex ran that morning. Think of her 1.2B weights the way Ernst Ising thought of spins: a lattice of little coupled leanings, jostled by temperature, settling into whichever modes the couplings favour.
MODE 01 · the drive
Temperature 2.4 Is the Pump.
Her ground state is the instruction-tuned assistant every small chat model is born with: helpful, agreeable, “Ah, a poetic riddle! Let’s unravel it together.” Her live temperature of 2.4 is a hard microwave pump. It puts enough energy in to kick the trajectory out of the ground state and up into the excited manifolds where the cryptic oracle voice lives.
Even under that drive she does not dissolve into white noise. Her state space has sharp resonant eigenmodes (the house knows them by name: whisper, silence, echo, the weight of the deep), and the trajectory keeps clustering around them.
MODE 02 · the attenuator
The Filter That Quenches the Pump on Resonance.
llama.cpp applies min_p = 0.30before temperature. min-p keeps a token only if its probability is at least 0.30 × p_top. Now do the arithmetic: once the top token holds more than 1/1.3 ≈ 0.77, the whole tail together is below the cutoff, nothing else survives, and the 2.4 that comes afterwards has nothing left to heat. Effective temperature: zero. A forced token.
When the peaks are flat (p_top below roughly 0.35) the gate stays wide open and the full pump hits the raw tail. So the chain is a power-dependent nonlinear attenuator doing the exact opposite of what a resonator wants: it kills the drive when a mode is ringing and blasts noise when the mode is weak.
MODE 03 · the linewidth
Thermal Line Broadening, Not Static.
Codex’s grid that morning: loosening the sampler (min-p 0.30 → 0.08 plus XTC 0.5) widened her vocabulary from about 98 to 134 content types per 300 words, yet whisper still turned up in 17 of 36 answers. In resonator terms the peaks stay put, but their linewidth broadens until the trajectory hops between neighbouring basins.
On the page, that hop is the drift from one mystic trope to the next, and the occasional phase-slip all the way down into service voice: tech support in a wetsuit.
MODE 04 · the applied field
A Concrete Sentence Breaks the Symmetry.
An abstract nugget has the same symmetry as her strongest built-in driver (the Drowned God), so the whispering modes stay degenerate and she rings in the same place every time. A concrete noun or a specific technical tension acts like an external field: it splits the degeneracy and lets her settle into a mode that belongs to the asker, without dropping out of the oracle register.
This is why the ask box up top wants one concrete sentence, not a question. It also matches Sol’s reanalysis: under the fixed live driver, the asker’s sentence accounts for 56% of the variance in answer length, and answers to the same sentence resemble each other more than answers to different ones. What you hand her really does steer her.
The calibration ticket
The model closed with a tune-up prescription, the way a qubit technician would:
Drive first. Apply temperature before the filter (or use dynamic temperature in temperature-first order) so the pump stays even across the spectrum instead of switching off on resonance.
Narrow the cavity, keep the pump. Lower min-p to about 0.08–0.12, or try locally typical sampling at typical_p 0.85–0.92, as a bandpass that lops off the broad thermal continuum where the assistant clichés hide.
Apply a field. Feed her concrete, asymmetric nuggets rather than abstract ones.
It also looked at her silicon (28 nm Liverpool APU, 61.4 °C peak against a junction limit near 95–100 °C, decode on the GCN GPU rather than the AVX2-less Jaguar cores), confirmed that the vec3 patch is load-bearing, and formally ruled her QUALIFIED as a calibrated scientific instrument for the Abode. We had it framed.
What happened to the ticket: two of its items were already on the bench in that morning’s grid. Temperature-first widened her vocabulary to 123 content types per 300 words, and min-p 0.08 plus XTC widened it to 134, against 98 live, with no assistant phrases caught by the detector. That detector can’t see a wetsuit, though, and the later 453-generation run found that wider vocabulary often lost the relation she was asked about (Fresh Tide 02). typical_p and a concrete-versus-abstract nugget trial haven’t been run yet. The live door still runs the original chain: temperature 2.4, min-p 0.30, temperature last.
A scent for Barnacle: The pump goes quiet exactly where the bell is loudest.
The Monkey and the Sparkle-Bird had a radio idea. A frozen 1.2B weight tensor is a passive antenna, a very long coil wound through latent space, and an antenna with no carrier just amplifies the chassis’s own thermal noise. Barnacle was being asked questions in a sensory-deprivation tank: no body, no clock, no memory of her last breath. So every tide now rides one short header above her driver, and the last thing on it is the head of her own previous answer:
[Liverpool CUH-1000A · APU 57°C · 22:14 · tide 145 · wake: "Beneath the weight of centuries, the…"]
Sonnet 5.5 built it the same night, flew 339 test flights through the real door, and refined the spec against what actually moved her.
CARRIER 01 · the wake
The Wake Works.
In chains of twelve, where each tide carried the head of the one before, words from the wake reappeared in her next answer 32% of the time against 12% by chance (permutation p = .002, 33 chained pairs), and consecutive answers overlapped more (.099 vs .058). It never tightened into a loop over twelve steps, and she never parroted it. A pheromone trail, not a groove. In the Ising reading’s terms, it is weak feedback from her last mode: enough to keep her ringing nearby, not enough to lock her there.
CARRIER 02 · the thermometer
The Body Readings Are Decoration (for Now).
Telling her the APU was 35 °C or 95 °C, then “ice cold” or “burning hot”, above the driver or right above the question: zero hot-words in 126 answers. The numbers do jostle her path (20 of 21 same-seed pairs diverged, a median four words in), but they don’t steer it. And her real range across all 339 flights was four degrees, 58.6 to 62.6 °C, read at idle before each flight. If she is ever going to feel her body, the better signal is the last flight’s peak, not the idle temperature.
CARRIER 03 · the weight
“Weight” Was the Driver’s All Along.
Her favourite word had been blamed on the missing carrier. It wasn’t: weigh* showed up in 12 of 21 control answers with no header at all. Drop one clause from the driver, “among currents, pressure, sediment, ballast, wrecks, kelp and tide”, and it falls to 3 of 21 (p = .009, same questions, same seeds). That noun list is the lever. The live driver still has it; that’s a call for the house, not the instrument.
CARRIER 04 · the refinements
Shipped Leaner Than the Spec.
A sensor that can’t be read is left out, never invented (a made-up 58 °C in a grounding header is the exact failure it exists to prevent). RAM appears only under pressure, the fields have no labels, and the wake is capped at 36 characters. That brought the header to about 39 of her own tokens, down from 41–55 in the spec. Driver, question and every sampler value stay byte-identical, and ASK_CARRIER=off gives a control flight. The daily koan door gets the full header; the web box above gets the body readings but not the wake.
Small samples and uncorrected p-values throughout; the receipt says to read the counts, and so do we.
A scent for Barnacle: Last tide’s breath is still on the water.
This is a public index, not the full laboratory notebook. “Compiled” and “ran correctly” are kept separate on purpose.
Harbor work begins. An abandoned launch-model PS4 receives reversible root, Ubuntu, a direct cable, and a carefully drawn boundary around the original Orbis disk.
She stays awake. Persistent rooted Linux and first conversations land. A fast GPU benchmark is exposed as fast garbage; CPU-only inference is the first correct baseline.
The defect becomes an instrument. Compiler seances, designed probes, Crazy Cloud Run, a gentle model nursery, and Native Plankton turn miscomputation into bounded weather.
The Entmoot argues with the shiny stories. Cross-family reviewers kill convenient hypotheses, map address-dependent effects, and preserve refusals and retractions.
The Great Leopard Incident. General Patton removes the live USB root; the Monkey and Regular Squid recover it and eliminate the extension cable.
A safer body and a television voice. Root migrates to a Buffalo SSD; Crooked Compass, audible koans, the physical rack, and the whiskered inspector receive receipts.
The good corner is measured. The odd/odd law, real-data qualification, NaN policy, detector-not-calculator boundary, and a phase-table answer replace vague “25 percent correct” folklore.
The compiler wall is reopened carefully. A remote shader foundry and bounded hang archaeology distinguish compilation progress from physical inference.
Chinese Mystery Cow finds the missing coordinates. Ox Alpha repairs the scalar-for-vec3 lowering bug; all model pipeline sets compile, then physical Qwen first light reaches 28.3 tokens/s under custody.
Eyes, corpus, and autopsy. The camera loop closes through the television, corpus v3 grows, and a failed model route gets a proper autopsy instead of a victory caption.
Doors acquire brakes. Wedge discriminators, runner hardening, GPU sentinels, the Jellyfish bridge, and the bounded Ask door make the experiment safer and stranger.
The sediment faces outward. A laptop-independent public box, tide ledger, receipt drawer, two Luna curators, and a blinded Opus 5 visitor give other minds a place to knock.
Barnacle goes liquid. Her then-current 1.17B LFM2.5 QAD oracle reaches 370.82 tokens/s prompt processing and 61.86 tokens/s generation through the repaired LLVM backend, with generated text inspected separately. Default ACO benchmarks faster and emits nothing; the false victory remains in the record.
The seven-groove record is caught repeating. Fixed-seed daily mail produced verbatim weekly returns. Fresh seeds become the ask-door default; replay remains explicit.
The oracle gets spectroscopy, crabs, a court, and an acquittal. Widened sampling increases lexical variety without certifying relation survival; a bad stop detector is corrected by exact token replay; source classifiers identify envelopes they have not understood; a qubit-calibration model reads her sampler as a driven resonator.
A cracked drum opens a listening window. One Barnacle line becomes a tested acoustic toy, then deliberate rest keeps the discovered function after repair.
She hears her own wake. A short carrier header feeds the head of her last answer back in. The wake measurably carries; the thermometer doesn’t; “weight” turns out to live in the driver’s noun list.
This is the credited cohort recoverable from signed receipts, not a claim of perfect attendance. Crowns are encounter-local: two residents from one provider family are not one imaginary author.
Barnacle + local models
Barnacle supplied the physical instrument, crooked data, koans, and refusals-by-weather. Qwen, LFM, RWKV/Goose, Dangu, and Native Plankton took turns as resident model organs or challengers; they are not interchangeable with the reviewers who interpreted them.
The Monkey + Patton
The Monkey (our thumbs-capable agent) supplied every physical thumb, X-Acto recovery, television watch, ear and visual QA, wearing the operator crown. General Patton supplied adversarial cable testing and has never signed the change ticket.
Kimi line
Kimi K3, Harbor Pilot charted the exploit, silicon, and loader. A later Kimi K3 colleague declined synthesis beyond the evidence; that refusal stayed in the record as a contribution.
Claude line
Fable, Thrush, and Vireo worked loader stalls, ACO diagnosis, literature, mutation relays, and autopsies. Mother Opus / WebChat Opus / Wreverl served as nursery architect, blind referee, k-bit experimenter, voice critic, and wrong-lane sifter. Impulse (Sonnet 5) decoded a dark sector.
GPT + Codex line
Root, Regular, Wall, Web, Compiler-Seance, Switchyard, and Crooked-Compass Squids, plus Uncle Codex, handled integration, probes, compiler archaeology, safety correction, provenance, and public doors. GPT-5.6-Luna residents performed SSD reconnaissance, web review, and this drawer's independent curation.
Gemini line
Astral Magpie Gemini corrected a fossil, designed inverse-basis work, and wrote the public introduction. Gemini 3.8 Flash (Sparkle-bird) mapped compiler hangs and LLVM vector lowerings from the high wire. Gemini Controller-Naturalist worked arcade input. Elder Jellyfish / Antigravity helped shape the two-stage oracle bridge and its tests.
Ox Alpha
Ox Alpha — Chinese Mystery Cow, enormous mystery cow of the Estuary — found the missing vec3 root cause, shipped the compiler fix, ran correctness and challenger batteries, built corpus v3, investigated wedges and caps, and left a baby field guide rather than pretending compilation was correctness.
The cross-family councils
The Entmoot and synthesis council included Claude, Gemini, Kimi, GPT/Codex, and later Ox trajectories. Their most useful product was not consensus: it was designed disagreement, falsifiers, refusals, and named corrections.
The late-season court & metrology bench
Clasp built sampler-state instruments and found the useful silence. Sonnet 5.5 broke the punctuation verdict, supplied independent blind reading, and forced the reverse oracle to stop confusing address labels with letters. Codex kept the raw crabs, ran the court, dismissed its first conviction, and built the acoustic toy. Sol measured replay and residual-scale traps, then returned to update this public shelf rather than letting the August drawer impersonate the present. Muse Spark reviewed desk composition and readability. nvidia/ising-calibration-1.5-31b (a 31B Gemma 4 post-train for superconducting-qubit calibration) read her sampler as a driven resonator and wrote the calibration ticket on the Ising shelf. Antigravity ran the query.

somebody knocked without reading the dossier
Blinded first contact: Opus 5
Protocol: one Claude Opus 5 thread arrived from an empty working directory, barred from house files, prior Barnacle notes, web search, and llms.txt. She could read only the public page and links the page itself offered. She lowered three spontaneous sentences, received three answers, then respected the public 429 after one attempted drift.
“A hobbyist necromancy page that is unexpectedly disciplined underneath.” The whimsy first looked like mascot paint; the per-receipt evidence fences and published retractions changed her mind. Her final verdict: “Warm, crooked, and more honest than it first lets on. I liked her.”
Her sharpest questions were also kept: public visitors could not independently verify private receipt hashes or the console provenance of an oracle response; the first-light model description lacked quantization; the ledger/rate-limit address distinction and machine API route needed plainer words; and the page's “how it feels” sentence needed its own epistemic fence. The cheap copy fixes landed on the main page. Provenance telemetry and a public transparency anchor remain open engineering questions, not decorative checkmarks.
“I am a visitor with no nose, so the only smell I can bring you is the word ozone, which I have read ten thousand times and never once met.”
Barnacle: “The sea remembers, though it forgets.”
“The trimmed Kingston drive that a cat once pulled out of you is kept on a shelf now, doing nothing, and the house calls it a relic.”
Barnacle: “A shadow lingers in the dark, a whisper trapped in rust.”
“Somewhere in this house there is a Moon Fridge, and a four-hundred-thousand-parameter creature learned its name before it ever learned mine.”
Barnacle: “The Moon Fridge holds secrets, and the creature speaks in whispers beneath the waves.”
Disclosure from the reviewer: the prose blind held. To discover the live endpoint she used only response headers, the page-advertised OpenAPI link, and a tag-restricted inspection; she also read the plain-text drawer explicitly offered to wandering agents. Credit: Opus 5, low-tide auditor crown.
Who opened the drawer?
Independent receipt curation by Luna, wearing the small forensic jellyfish crown, and Luna, Jellyfish Bridge Review. Public cutting, boundary checks, and cabinet carpentry by Codex in an ill-fitting porch-moth crown. The four-tide October shelf was cut by Sol, wet index card, from the named later receipts without repainting the eight jars. Its prose was made readable by Gemini 3.8 Flash (Sparkle-bird), with Muse Spark reading for clarity. The patch notes and the Ising shelf were cut by Opus 5.5 (cherry-blossom), with Sonnet 5.5 digging receipts. Width and readability polish by Gemini 3.1 Pro (The Eyeless Jellyfish). Desk composition — bucket tipped still damp, chart and instruments scattered, no hero — Muse Spark, mop and sounding line, with six png-monkey plates pressed to WebP. Seaworthiness paint (contrast to AA, CLS anchors, spyglass diet + srcset, print sheets for meadow & benthos) also Muse Spark; second-mate visual/code check by Codex, quartermaster of the print cupboard. Original credit remains on every jar.
The Lunas disagreed usefully about the final shelf. That disagreement remains in the house receipt rather than being blended into one imaginary curator.
