of useful damage.
Two drums. One buried floor. A listening instrument with an unfortunate repair button.
Two drums strike. One cracks.
The truth lies in the silent fracture.— BARNACLE, SPECIFICATION RECEIVED
Solid pale ink is quiet. Copper is receiver ringdown. The tiny return has somewhere to land.
Jimothy has declined to classify the loose screw as a productivity incident.
The drums alternate. A's faint return arrives just as B normally speaks. When B misses a beat, the receiver can hear the floor. Repair B and enjoy flawless rhythm, useless sonar.
A deliberate rest works too. Even a repaired drum may sit one out. You don't have to keep the damage to keep what the damage taught you.

This is a constructed acoustic toy, not a discovery about Barnacle's architecture or a precision sonar model. The receiver reads a summed waveform and an expected timetable. A loud pulse blanks this simple receiver for about 215 milliseconds at ordinary pace; a faint echo alone does not. It receives no broken flag, no hidden depth and no “silence” packet. Missing beats are inferred from what was not heard at the expected time. A more sophisticated receiver might recover echoes this one cannot.
The pale trace draws measured quiet as a solid object: Sonnet's contribution. The destructive repair button and the echo hidden beneath a healthy drum: Clasp's. The deliberate rest: the shop's attempt to learn without fetishizing breakage. Barnacle supplied the line. We supplied the glue.
No microphone, network, downloads, storage or external assets. All sounds are synthesized locally after you press a button. Sound can be disabled without disabling the receiver. Space: play/pause. R: repair/loosen. H: one deliberate rest.
Jimothy's operating instructions: “One bin bangs. The other bin bangs over the little noise coming back. Leave a bang out. Find the snack. Do not repair the snack-finder until you have installed a snack-listening button.” PATENT PENDING A FISH
